Ashmita Dr. Sengupta
Dr. Ashmita Sengupta is a Senior Research Scientist and ecohydrologist with expertise in optimization, adaptive management of water resources geared to protect ecosystem health, sustainable low impact development design, and system vulnerabilities under climate change and other pressures. Dr Sengupta actively collaborates with researchers across multiple disciplines and institutions, as well as with stakeholders and funding agencies, to study the sustainable management of water resources, role of anthropogenic pollutants in the receiving water systems, and the significance of policy, governance and economics in addressing these issues.
Dr. Ashmita Sengupta completed her Ph.D. and M.S from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and subsequently joined Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP), a Joint Powers Agency as a scientist. At SCCWRP, Ashmita’s research spanned across multiple disciplines and institutions, as well as with stakeholders and funding agencies, to study the sustainable management of water resources, role of anthropogenic pollutants in the receiving water systems, and the significance of policy, governance and economics in addressing these issues. In the past, she has worked on adapting water quality guidelines for developing countries (Cambodia, and Bangladesh) at the World Health Organization. She has also worked as a design engineer, and modeler on Yamuna Action Plan (YAP), a bilateral river restoration project between the Governments of Japan and India.
